The pianist Horace Parlan, who became known through his work with Charles Mingus' Jazz Workshop, made his debut with Blue Note in 1959 as Lou Donaldson's accompanist.
In the following two years, he recorded six important hard bop albums for the label under his own name. His best recording is the quintet album "Up & Down", about which AllMusic wrote: "Parlan is at the height of his powers and shows in many ways what he is really capable of as a pianist and bandleader".
Blue Note Tone Poet Edition: Stereo, produced by Joe Harley, completely analog remastered by Kevin Gray from the original tapes, RTI pressing (180g), sturdy tip-on gatefold sleeve, padded inner sleeve.
