George C. Scott and Lester Rawlins star in this classic comedy from director Anthony Harvey. Retired New York judge Justin Playfair (Scott) struggles with his new reality after the death of his wife.
When he retreats into a world of fantasy and make-believe, telling people he is the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes, his brother (Rawlins) grows concerned and tries to have him committed. When psychiatrist Mildred Watson (Joanne Woodward) assesses him, however, she too becomes obsessed with Playfair's stories and soon finds herself embodying her patient's fictional companion, Watson.
