The legendary 1994 film "The Shawshank Redemption" was written and directed by Frank Darabont and is based on a 1982 novella by Stephen King. The film tells the story of two convicts who form a friendship over the course of several years and seek solace and eventual redemption through basic compassion.

When it was released, "The Shawshank Redemption" was nominated for seven Oscars and two Golden Globe Awards. The film is now one of the most popular films of all time, has been number one on the IMDb best list since 2008 and was voted by BBC Radio 1 listeners as their favorite film of all time in 2011.

The film score was composed by multiple award-winner Thomas Newman. The score was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Score in 1994, which was Newman's first Oscar nomination. The soprano's "Letter Duet" ("Canzonetta sull'aria") from Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro", which is included on the soundtrack, can be heard in a central scene of the film. The set also includes the original songs "Lovesick Blues" by Hank Williams and "If I Didn't Care" by The Inkspots.
