One of the very early recordings by singer Betty Carter, who had previously earned her spurs alongside Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and in Lionel Hampton's orchestra. On "The Modern Sound Of Betty Carter", the scat-suited singer, who otherwise preferred smaller ensembles, can be heard in 1960 with the orchestra of Richard Wess, who worked with Aretha Franklin, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr, the Drifters and, above all, Bobby Darin.
