Double bill of animated adventures telling the stories of a father and son both destined for greatness. In 'The Lion King' (2019) young lion cub Simba (voice of Donald Glover/JD McCrary) is destined to become King of the Pride Lands after the death of his father Mufasa (James Earl Jones), but is instead forced into exile by his evil and greedy uncle Scar (Ejiofor), who tricks Simba into taking responsibility for his father's death and claims the throne for himself. Away from his family, Simba befriends meerkat Timon (Billy Eichner) and warthog Pumbaa (Seth Rogen) and begins living a carefree life until his best friend Nala (Beyoncé/Shahadi Wright Joseph) convinces him to return home and take his rightful place as ruler of the Pride Lands.
In the prequel 'Mufasa: The Lion King' (2024) mandrill Rafiki (John Kani) tells Mufasa (Aaron Pierre)'s granddaughter Kiara (Blue Ivy Carter) the story of her grandfather and his best friend Taka (Kelvin Harrison Jr.). Separated from his parents during a flash-flood, Mufasa is saved by Taka and taken in by his family. When they are attacked by a vicious pride of lions called the Outsiders, Mufasa fights back, but Taka's father sends the two young lions in search of a new home.
During their journey, they meet Sarabi (Tiffany Boone), a brave lionness. She and Mufasa fall in love but as the trio are pursued by the Outsiders, who seek to eliminate all challengers to their tyrannical rule, Taka becomes increasingly resentful of Mufasa's innate goodness, strength and nobility.
