After her dense, varied, post-modern, eponymous second album had shown that Sheryl Crow was no one-album wonder, she didn't have to prove as much the third time around.

Having created an original version of roots rock with Sheryl Crow, she was now faced with the dilemma of how to stay true to this sound without repeating herself on her third album, The Globe Sessions. It's to her credit that she never plays coy, neither with the Stones rockers ("There Goes the Neighborhood") nor with the Dylan covers (the remarkable "Mississippi", an outtake from Time Out of Mind).

However, she has decided to abandon the multi-layered production and fixation with pop culture that made Sheryl Crow one of the most important albums of the mid-90s. The Globe Sessions is the third studio album by American singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow and was released in September 1998. It was nominated for Album of the Year, Best Rock Album and Best Non-Classical Album at the 1999 Grammys, winning the latter two awards. The album was recorded at Globe Recording Studio in New York, owned by Robert FitzSimons and Tracey Loggia, and named after the recordings made there.
