The Marías is something of a psychedelic-soul love child between Puerto Rican-born, Atlanta-raised María Zardoya and Los Angeles-born Josh Conway.

The band is completed by their best friends Jesse Perlman on guitar and Edward James on keyboards. Guided by an intuitive musical chemistry, their music is a gentle rendezvous of jazz percussion, hypnotic guitar riffs, smoky velvety vocals and nostalgic horn solos. When The Marías fuse jazz, psychedelia, funk and lounge, there is something dreamlike and at the same time incredibly sensual about it "We're back" is how The Marías announced their return to duty in mid-February 2024.

Three years after their highly acclaimed, Grammy-nominated debut album, the Californian indie pop band dove back to the surface with their submarine. "Submarine" is the exact title of their second album, which The Marías will release on May 31. For The Marías, the title "Submarine" stands for the themes of loneliness and exploration. On the album, they dive into the complexity of human emotions. What does it mean to choose loneliness? Where is the pain and beauty that are inextricably linked to it? The new single "Run Your Mouth" is a first introduction to the immersive world that this album has inspired the band to create.
