For main songwriter and frontman Neige, ALCEST has always been a gateway to another world, a way to explore his spirituality. With their sixth album "Spiritual Instinct", the duo - joined by long-term drummer and creative collaborator Winterhalter - are releasing a particularly personal work for Neige.

'A lot was bubbling inside me this time,' he explains. 'So it's a very liberating album - there was so much that just had to come out of me. That's why this record is darker and heavier than we're used to The follow-up to 2016's successful 'Kodama', was written during and after the band's lengthy touring period, and the urgency that Neige and speaks of unfolds in spontaneity and great punch on the album - be it in the breathtaking tempo changes of 'Les Jardin De Minuits' or the sunny harmonies in 'Sapphire', layered over an incessant back-beat; "Spiritual Instinct" is full of catchy riffs and is both a commitment to the band's black metal roots and their ever-dreamy post-metal, which they pioneered.
