In the 1960s, many jazz artists were inspired in one way or another by the groundbreaking recordings that John Coltrane made for Impulse! Records at the time. Even the great Sonny Rollins could not completely escape this influence. The best example of this is the 1966 album "East Broadway Run Down", on which the saxophonist - congenially supported by the rhythm tandem of the legendary Coltrane Quartet and trumpeter Freddie Hubbard - undertakes an adventurous excursion into freer sound realms. The album is considered a true jewel in Rollins' oeuvre of the 1960s.
