Shinbangumi (Sunray and Juban TV Building Vinyl) [LP]

Ginger Root is the project of Cameron Lew from Southern California. Since his first release in 2017, the multi-instrumentalist, producer, songwriter and visual artist has been blending handmade but immaculately polished synth-pop, alt-disco, boogie and soul into a sound he describes as "aggressive elevator soul". Through his lens as an Asian American who grew up listening to the music of the 1970s and 80s, a music takes shape that specifically highlights the creative and cultural dialog between Japanese city pop and its Western counterparts from French pop to Philly soul to Ram-era McCartney.

Today Ginger Root announces Shinbangumi, his third LP and the first for his new label Ghostly International. Lew emerges on Shinbangumi more composed, idiosyncratic and aware than ever, bringing out exactly what Ginger Root should sound and feel like. The lead single "No Problems" acts as an opening sequence and bridge to new territory with singable basslines, sweeping guitar riffs and clever keyboard hooks.
