After working with her sisters in the group The Davis Singers, Skeeter Davis began an impressive solo career. With nearly 40 singles charting between 1957 and 1974, her recording of "The End Of The World" (produced by Chet Atkins) reached #2 on the pop and country charts, #1 on the adult contemporary charts and #4 on the R&B charts in 1962. Think about that!
Since Skeeter had already transcended perceived genres, the thought of collaborating with the musical Pandora's Box known as NRBQ shouldn't be hard to fathom. Terry Adams' discovery of the David Sisters 78 RPMs led to the tracks being included in early NRBQ setlists. The pairing was intentional. She Sings, They Play was a natural pairing and was released in 1985 to critical acclaim. "We had more fun recording this record. What other group would think of playing 'Someday My Prince Will Come' in 4/4 time?" asked Skeeter Davis.
She Sings, They Play returns nearly four decades after its original release, remastered and featuring six previously unreleased bonus tracks - two studio outtakes appear on the LP, while these and four other live recordings are now available on the CD/digital version. The packaging includes updated artwork, photos from the sessions and insightful liner notes by John DeAngelis.
