The genesis and recording of "Right Now" are shrouded in mystery. According to Richard's autobiography, the set was recorded in one night with Robert "Bumps" Blackwell to raise money for an upcoming tour. Aside from the fact that "In The Name" has a recording date of January 1973, that's all the information we have. There are no songwriters listed on the artwork, and while "Dock Of The Bay" and "Chains Of Love" sounded familiar, the track "Chain Chain Chain" was actually the Aretha Franklin classic "Chain Of Fools"

What you do know is that the album is a real banger. Richard's barrelhouse keyboards make the tracks jump - the length ranges from under three to over eight minutes. There are soul ballads ("Don't You Know I"), stompers ("Gerald Jones") and slow blues. Had Richard and Blackwell known that the release would be as unadorned and poorly distributed as it was, they might have had second thoughts. But as it was, it came out on a cut-price label, was relegated to the drawers and has not been re-released to this day.

Restored and remastered, Right Now! returns after 50 years - for the first time on CD. With updated artwork and a new essay by Bill Dahl.
