Lieutenant Jeff Knight arrives in "Nam" fresh from military school. There he refuses to accept that the war is not going according to the textbook and is promptly wounded. Barely recovered, he realizes that no one expected him to return. Lieutenant Knight slowly comes to understand the laws on the green front. The war welds the disparate troops together, they have to trust each other and fight together: it's a matter of life and death. Like Sergeant McNamara, he becomes one of those madmen who thrive on danger.
