When French director Roger Vadim made his scandalous film "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" in 1959, he afforded himself the extraordinary luxury of having the film music recorded by two jazz legends: Thelonious Monk and Art Blakey. While Monk's recordings were only released on a double album in 2017, Blakey's were released as early as 1960 on the soundtrack album of the same name. Blakey can be heard here with three different but equally exciting ensembles - his Jazz Messengers, the Afrocuban Boys and the Barney Wilen Quartet - and lively hard bop originals and a Latin number from the pen of pianist Duke Jordan.
