July Blue Skies [CD]

Embark on a funky, synth-soaked journey as the cosmic Jimi Tenor teams up with soul architects Cold Diamond & Mink from Timmion Records for another album.

Compared to the pair's most recent work, "Is There Love In Outer Space?", "July Blue Skies" glides along on a somewhat rougher and more mystical plane. Created in fiery sessions between Tenor and Cold Diamond & Mink, this release features six soulful tracks that range from gentle groove to soundtrack funk.

The album's opening title track begins with an extended analog synth intro that eventually evolves into a sweet, romantic incantation that paints a sonic canvas reminiscent of a boundless summer sky. The most vocal track of this purely instrumental set of songs, "Sky Train Baby", takes the listener on a locomotive ride through the star systems, while "Venus of Barsoon" leads straight into sci-fi funk territory with its drum breaks and fuzz sounds.

The B-side of the album opens with "Ikuchi", where Tenor's tried and tested flute and tenor saxophone take the spotlight over the sluggish library beats. To close the album, we discover two singles, the sublime "Summer Of Synesthesia" and the demonic "Tsicroxe", both of which are absolutely worth a listen on this album too.
