Indigo Girls (180g) [LP]

After a limited self-financed release, this self-titled album can be considered the Indigo Girls' proper debut. The album immediately rose up the charts, earning them a Grammy Award in 1989 and eventually going platinum in 1991. Featuring the complementary songwriting of Emily Saliers and Amy Ray and guest vocals by Michael Stipe of R. E.M., the album is a showcase for jangly folk-rock, beautiful ballads and poetic lyrics. A delightful piece where the harmonies are light and sweet and the whole record is imbued with a kind of gentle innocence.

In the wake of the new acoustic song-based styles of Suzanne Vega, Tracy Chapman and 10,000 Maniacs, the Indigo Girls managed to achieve mainstream success and retain their enthusiastic fan base over the three decades following this release.

The song "Closer to Fine" gained new attention in 2023 after it was featured in a key scene of the blockbuster film "Barbie" by Greta Gerwig.
