John Cusack plays the role of Rob Gordon, the owner of a semi-seedy record store on one of Chicago's side streets. He sells music the old-fashioned way - on vinyl, with two crazy salesmen, the hysterically funny rock snob Barry (Jack Black) and the rather quiet nerd Dick (Todd Luiso). But Rob's business isn't the only thing in his life that's faltering - his needle skips the love groove when his longtime girlfriend Laura (Iben Hjejle) leaves him.
