The group began in 1954 as an American family music group originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, starting as a vocal trio consisting of brothers O'Kelly Isley Jr, Rudolph Isley and Ronald Isley. The Isley Brothers have sold over 18 million records in the United States alone.

"Go For Your Guns" is the fifteenth album by The Isley Brothers. Originally released in mid-April 1977, the album reached #1 on the Billboard Top Soul Charts and #6 on the Billboard 200 one month later.

The album includes "Footsteps In The Dark", which was sampled by hip-hop artist Ice Cube for his hit "It Was A Good Day". The song reached #7 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart and #25 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart in 1993.
