By the time "Foxtrot" was released in 1972, Genesis had gained a considerable following among fans of sophisticated, progressive rock and earned a reputation for inspired, theatrical live performances.

Opening with the haunting "Watcher Of The Skies", "Foxtrot" won over critics of the time, who called it "almost the perfect album". On Side 2, the album closed with the gigantic "Supper's Ready", a 27-minute composition made up of many parts, whose multi-faceted structure and musical dexterity still astounds today.
