Fatal Mistakes: Outtakes & B-Sides [LP]

In May 2021, De Amitri released "Fatal Mistakes," their first album in 19 years. in 2022, the Scottish band followed it up by releasing a collection of recordings that didn't make it onto the comeback record, but still shouldn't go unheard: "Fatal Mistakes: Outtakes & B-Sides''.

"When Cooking Vinyl asked us to provide material for a bonus CD to accompany the various 'Fatal Mistakes' packages, we jumped at the chance to resurrect the B-side. We knew we had written at least ten tracks for the album that didn't make it into the final version, and we also knew they wouldn't necessarily make it onto the next studio album," Del Amitri says on their website.

In the 1990s, the band says it was common for every single on an album to include at least one exclusive new track. This gave it the opportunity to try new things in the studio. These sessions allowed Del Amitri to learn a lot, plus they noticed that fans were also learning to love these B-sides. Instead of one or more physical singles, "Fatal Mistakes: Outtakes & B-Sides" offered the freedom to play around with new songs away from the spotlight of the actual album.

Ten eventually made it into the collection. Two of these tracks, "Lips Of London" and "Gone In A Second", were written during the 2020 album sessions for "Fatal Mistakes". The remaining eight were written specifically for the project during the winter 2021 lockdown and recorded remotely. "They should work as companion pieces to 'Fatal Mistakes,' and as long as anyone anywhere claims one of these B-sides is better than anything on the album, we'll be happy," the band says.
