The The, one of the most acclaimed and appreciated bands of the last decades, releases "Ensoulmemt", their first studio album with new songs in a quarter of a century!
The 12 brand new songs cover characteristic themes such as love & sex, war & politics, life & death - right up to the question of what humanity means in the 21st century.
The album was written, prepared and mixed at Studio Cinéola in London, the creative hub of Matt Johnson, the driving force behind The The. "Ensoulment" contains influences from The The's diverse musical past, but is also representative of the band's here and now. Johnson doesn't shy away from addressing the emotional complexities of the human condition - intimacy in an age of alienation; democracy in a post-truth age; empire and vassalage; and the unstoppable rise of artificial intelligence - but the album is also full of hope. "It's important to be hopeful," says Johnson. "And I hope people get from the album what we put into it. It came about under very fortunate circumstances, with a great vibe between the band and all the people who worked on it. There was a lot of thought, a lot of work, a lot of love and a lot of laughter!"
