38 years after the seminal number 1 single "Ghost Town", there is new music from The Specials! The new album "Encore" celebrates the 40th anniversary of the founding of the band and the legendary Two-Tone label. It was produced by the Specials founding members and Danish musician/producer Torp Larsen.
At the forefront of the British ska revival in the late 70s, The Specials were a multi-layered melting pot that embodied more than just their black and white checkered Two-Tone label logos.
In the UK, their debut single "Gangster" reached number 6 and every subsequent single was in the top 10, including 2 x number 1's. They released two top 5 albums before topping the UK Singles Chart with "Ghost Town".
In the current turbulent environment, 38 years later, "Encore" picks up almost exactly where "Ghost Town" left off, stylistically and thematically, and tackles serious issues.
The critically acclaimed album picks up where they left off, and the lead single "Vote For Me" perfectly sums up the times. A new version of "The Lunatics", a track that had played a role in the 1981 break-up, seemed even more topical. The album reached number one in the charts and they began a year-long tour of the UK, Europe and the USA.
