"Dunkirk" is a 2017 English-language war film written, co-produced and directed by Christopher Nolan. The film stars Fionn Whitehead, Tom Hardy, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jack Lowden, Harry Styles, Aneurin Barnard and James D'Arcy. The film focuses on the evacuation of Allied soldiers from Belgium, the British Empire, Canada and France who were cut off from the beaches and harbor of Dunkirk, France, and surrounded by the German army during the Battle of France in World War II between May 26 and June 4, 1940.

The film music was composed by multiple award-winner Hans Zimmer. On April 5, 2017, Zimmer revealed that he had almost completed the score and that it would be finished by the start of his Hans Zimmer "Live on Tour" shows in May.

To add to the intensity, the script was written to allow for the aural illusion of a Shepard sound, which was previously used in Nolan's 2006 film 'The Prestige'. This was coupled with the sound of a ticking clock, taken from Nolan's own pocket watch, which he recorded and sent to Zimmer to synthesize.
