When Clifford Jordan moved to New York in 1957 to replace Sonny Rollins in Max Roach's quintet, his reputation preceded him as one of Chicago's greatest talents on the tenor saxophone. In the same year of his arrival, the 25-year-old was given the opportunity to record three albums for Blue Note, on which he demonstrated his skills. On "Cliff Craft", a wonderfully relaxed quintet recording, Jordan presented three of his own compositions as well as excellently interpreted classics by Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Duke Ellington.
