A sleepy little town in France in 1959. The same old routine is interrupted only by the unexpected arrival in town of the mysteriously beautiful young Vianne and her daughter. Vianne opens a chocolaterie - in the middle of Lent. A truly sensual pleasure begins: despite their initial skepticism, the villagers cannot resist the seductive effect of the sweet delicacies. This effect particularly appeals to the town's self-appointed guardian of morals, Mayor Comte de Reynaud, who sees his influence weakened by Vianne. He begins to plot against her. But in the end, only one thing counts: the pure lust for life!
