Alto saxophonist Jackie McLean literally had the blues mightily when he recorded one of his masterpieces, "Bluesnik," in January 1961. Together with Freddie Hubbard (trumpet), Kenny Drew (piano), Doug Watkins (bass) and Pete La Roca (drums), McLean recorded six bluesy hardbop originals that were bursting with emphaticness and effervescence.
