Buffalo Tom (Bill Janovitz, Chris Colbourn and Tom Maginnis) formed in 1984 at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst - a hotbed of post-punk guitar bands such as Dinosaur Jr. and Pixies. The three longtime band members recognize the achievement of their longevity as a creative unit.
Initially offering a raw, driving sound that emphasized "Janovitz" imposing guitar tone, Buffalo Tom's early approach gave way to a more melodic, but no less distinctive style. The band has released ten studio albums, the most recent of which, Jump Rope, was released earlier this year. "Big Red Letter Day" was released in 1993. On their fourth album, they did what they do very well, but with more polish in the production.
