Soul singer Bettye Swann was born on October 24, 1944 in Shreveport, USA, and spent her first nineteen years in Louisiana. She moved to California and signed a contract with Money Records, where she recorded her breakthrough hit "Make Me Yours" in 1967, which remains her best-selling album to this day. After the contract expired, she signed with Capitol Records and recorded an R&B version of Hank Cochran's country song "Don't Touch Me" with producer Wayne Shuler.
On this comprehensive self-titled double album, compiled by Mark Ainley, classics such as "Tell Me Like It Is", "Stand By Your Man", "(My Heart Is) Closed For The Season", "Willie & Laura Mae Jones" and 18 soulful soul songs showcase Bettye's unique voice.
