ENG: Four pieces by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, a pioneer of "sacred minimalism". At the center of the album is a previously unreleased interpretation of "Silentium", the second movement of Pärt's most famous concerto "Tabula Rasa", played by the chamber orchestra A Far Cry from Boston. The group plays "Silentium" at almost half the speed of the best-known version, which was released by ECM in 1984.

The piece, known for its healing effect on the dying and often used in palliative care facilities (one patient described it as "angel music"), is breathtaking at half speed and seems to bring time itself to a standstill. The album contains some of the most impressive interpretations of Pärt's music ever recorded. "Our Father (arr. for trombone & string ensemble)" is somehow warm and austere at the same time. A miniature epic. Pianist Marcel Worm's solo version of "Variationen zur Gesundung von Arinuschka" is so beautiful that there are hardly any words to describe it. "Fratres for Strings and Percussion" is one of Arvo Pärt's most famous works. This version by the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra is iconic, full of emotion, bordering on the romantic, but never tipping over. Pärt's approach to music and life is as sparse as the compositions he creates. He once said: "I have nothing to say... The music says what I have to say. And it is dangerous to say anything, because if I have already said it with words, there may be nothing left for my music."

Silentium continues Mississippi Records' fascination with this great contemporary composer. High-quality, heavyweight vinyl pressed at Smashed Plastic in Chicago, presented in a luxurious reverse board jacket with artwork by Pärt's saintly-minimal contemporary Eduard Steinberg.
