Following their second consecutive win as "Jazz Group of the Year" in the DownBeat Readers Poll, Artemis 2025 returns with their third Blue Note album, "Arboresque," as a quintet lineup led by pianist and musical director Renee Rosnes.
NPR Music described the band as a "femme fatale supergroup", which is not surprising given the outstanding line-up of trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, saxophonist Nicole Glover, bassist Noriko Ueda and drummer Allison Miller.
This time, the band cites nature and its effect and significance for us humans as the inspiration for the sound and repertoire of "Arboresque".
The eight tracks on the album, each consisting of an original composition by the band members as well as new arrangements of pieces by Wayne Shorter, Burt Bacharach and Donald Brown, sound harmonious and organic, giving the five musicians plenty of scope for elegant and challenging solos.
