The album "Alfie" was released in 1966 as the soundtrack to the British film of the same name starring Michael Caine.

Tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins had previously recorded the music, which he had written especially for the film, in London with British musicians for the movie. However, he re-recorded the music with an American star cast and arrangements by Oliver Nelson for the Impulse! album, which was released to coincide with the film's release and reached number 17 in the Billboard Rhythm'n'Blues charts.
